walkingshadow: nihilistic thumbs up!! (Default)
dinner was fun tonight, in that we'd planned on making ziti with quattro formaggi (MMMM), but it was six o'clock already and would have taken another hour and a half at the very least to make it and bake it, and we just didn't have the will to live. so my dad went off to rehearsal1 while my mom and i ordered thai. FANTASTIC. except that my dad had driven off with the van, and the car had overheated on my mom's way home. so i said, "i will bike up to the thai restaurant to fetch our food!" because my mother bikes to school every day (we live just over half a mile away from it) and has these saddlebag baskets on the back of her bike, plus my old headlight and rear light. the thai restaurant is a little farther away than the school, but not by much, and approachable by purely residential streets. so it was perfect, you see. even the weather was perfect, clear and cool enough that i barely broke a sweat. this qualifies as shenanigans in my life!

and then over dinner my mom and i watched the first two episodes of arrested development, which immediately vaulted itself into position as my new favorite show. this show is AWESOME. i—this show is in its third season? on *FOX*? in prime time? this is all so thrilling. i mean, it was hilarious, we just burst out laughing. it's wild and over-the-top, but these characters are brilliant and i love them already. i love their use of color. ooh, and maybe grey's anatomy could watch and take notes on effective use of voiceover narration in a television series. so awesome! i've already requested disk two—no use asking for them all at once, because then they come in all at once (or worse, in the wrong order) and you don't have time to watch them all, etc., etc. i mentioned netflix again, we'll see if it takes this time.

1. oh god, so my dad's been doing community theater for a couple of years. i have, thus far, been lucky enough in the past to have been more than three hundred miles away at the time of the staging of these plays, though i did get suckered into sitting through the first act of one of them on videotape. he loves it though, and it keeps him out of trouble.
