Oh, I go through the door with about an inch to spare.
Sunday, January 9th, 2005 10:05 pmDear Mum,
So sorry about your back! Hope it is feeling MUCH better now. (I am not, however, too terribly surprised that the injury resulted from lugging around too many library books.) As always, I look forward to any and all new recipes. Wish I could be there to guinea pig for you.
I passed on your words of experience re: northern winters to S., who was grimly aware of the facts. Today, however, she walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and took many pictures; she said it was about 40 degrees and the sun was out, and that was a welcome change. It continues to be warm in Gainesville: about 70 at the time of writing (that is, 8:00 p.m.). [Having just returned from the gym, and NB: the body is THRILLED TO PIECES at being regularly-exercised again. The energy is BACK, baby. I'm fascinated by how soft I've gotten, but my muscles are responding well to my throwing them back into two sets of fifteen (chest, back, glutes, hamstrings, biceps, triceps, quads, abductors, adductors, shoulders, andhuh, forgot calves today). I still don't understand boys who don't even pretend to work out their lower bodies. Like this one boy I saw tonight who I remember from the gym last year, who over the summer obviously continued his training regimenor else put himself on a methandrostenolone scheduleor bothbecause his biceps are something like three times their original size; his legs, however, are still chicken-scrawny. There was a boy there in a headband and a bright yellow shirt who did work out his entire body and was therefore beautifully proportioned. *peels eyes away*] According to weather.com, we're in for a cold front by the end of this week. Speaking of which, are you and dad still planning on visiting me then?
We had a lovely time with
silentfire this weekenda relatively short visit (she got in at about two on Friday and left at about two today (Sunday)) as she was at the mercy of her parents' timetable, but in the interim we watched DVDs [those being Season Three of due South and WOW with the pretty and the snarky and the lonely, pretty men finding each other and snarking happily ever after!] and ate sushi and drank coffee and played (on separate nights) Trivial Pursuit and a marathon game of Scattergories at Maude's, so our time was put to good use.
Yesterday after we'd lingered a while over a late brunch at Panera,
gjstruthseeker and I got haircuts, absolutely fabulous haircuts. I took many pictures of myself in the mirror to show you ( (if you're reading this in Safari, these links should take you to pictures; if they don't, copy-and-paste them into a new window): )
Before Dad can get hysterical, ( this is how long it is in the back: )
You may note in that last picture that I have a bit of beret-head going on; this is because yesterday we also took a trip to the mall, and there I bought a pink beret at Express for $12.80 (plus tax); it was 60% off, and I don't want to assign credit or blame or anything, but
silentfire and
gjstruthseeker TOTALLY TALKED ME INTO IT. ( Look how cute I am! )
I smiled big for you. :-D
The Latin American history class I'd signed up for originally (something like "Revolution in the Americas") was fine, but I didn't care for the professor. He was a poor speaker, the kind who makes you impatient to listen to, if you know what I meancan't get a sentence out all at once. Plus the paper was pretty hefty. I've swapped it for another Latin American history class ("Contemporary Latin America"), sight-unseen; I tried to check it out on Thursday, but only found a darkened classroom and a note on the door saying we'll meet for the first time this Tuesday. It could turn out to be much worse, but the odds are that if anything it'll only be just as badand it could be better!
I made an impulse buy at Publix today: ready-made polenta. [
gjstruthseeker and I finally made it to Publix after
silentfire left this afternoon; we got a terrifically late start because this morning Jules was running around reading newspapers and doing, like, work, Ri was sprawled on the living room floor reading fic, and I was busy DEMOLISHING THE SUNDAY TIMES CROSSWORD PUZZLE IN A SINGLE BLOW, making me, as it were, THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD.] I can, according to its package, bake it, grill it, or fry it, alone or with various accompaniments. Any suggestions?
Yay for your class and the money they collected! I'm so sorry you have to go back to school tomorrow. Have a good week; I hope they're angels for you.
Love,
B.
