counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
Saturday, December 13th, 2003 02:59 pmI live within hearing distance of the stadium, and there's been goings-on there for the past two days (a kid I met walking home last night said he thought it was high school teams). I heard The Star-Spangled Banner at least three times yesterday, and woke up to it again today. It hasn't gotten much better, though there's a little variation in which note they won't be able to hold this time. I was going to start out saying something like "I'm as patriotic as the next person!" but that would only be true if the next person were a French exchange student working on his degree and counting the days until graduation. Okay, not quite. Jules? When I finally make that inevitable move to Sweden, my US citizenship is all yours.
ETA: They're doing it again! No, really. It makes me want to learn the words to the original English drinking song, because that might amuse me. Wasn't there a movement to change the national anthem to something that people liked and could actually sing? America The Beautiful? American Girl? Bree Sharp's homage?
ETA again: To Anacreon In Heaven
