walkingshadow: nihilistic thumbs up!! (people can lose their lives in libraries)

I am a loser geek crazy with an evil streak

Under twelve hours now until paper deadline. Back to wanting to slit my wrists. I've been going through some of [livejournal.com profile] marythefan's M*A*S*H links in a spectacular but unsurprising display of avoidance and wow does that fic break your heart. Also, of *all* the fandoms to smush names pairing names together in cutesy ways? Hawkeye and Trapper have CANONICALLY, in the CANON, been referred to as "PierceIntyre." I'm just saying, I don't think Dumbledore is going to be absently addressing anyone as "Snarry" any of these days.

Me: why did i just open a tab for a story described as "Harry/Snape. Lupin/Snape. Harry/Lupin/Snape."?

hey, new color scheme! i like it :)

[identity profile] walkingshadow.livejournal.com 2004-12-14 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
The Ben Folds Five song is called Steven's Last Night In Town. I knew a lot of these would be really easy to get if you knew the songs—and since we share a brain, of course you know lots of the songs. *g* Shiny gold star for YOU.

hey, new color scheme! i like it :)

Thanks! Gotta mix it up somehow.

[identity profile] vongroovy.livejournal.com 2004-12-14 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
16. Billy Joel, When In Rome
23. Standing from Once More, With Feeling. Fantastic. My favourite song from that.
28. Poisoning Pigeons in the Park by Tom Lehrer. Also fantastic.

[identity profile] walkingshadow.livejournal.com 2004-12-14 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Whoo-hoo!

My favourite song from that.

Giles is just so. amazing. He's the one who really breaks my heart here. And, you know, the singing doesn't hurt. *g*

I had faith that you would get the Tom Lehrer if no one else did. :)

And after months of being squicked at the mere thought of Snape having sex, I just read A Choriambic Progression and liked it.

Come over to my side! Come! Come!

Me: why did i just open a tab for a story described as "Harry/Snape. Lupin/Snape. Harry/Lupin/Snape."?

And what did you think? (That certainly wasn't a tame Snape but it's the Snape I love.)

[identity profile] walkingshadow.livejournal.com 2004-12-14 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Come over to my side! Come! Come!

Heh. I don't think I'll ever become a true shipper, but I keep proving to myself that I really will read just about anything. My list of squicks is rapidly dwindling. I mean, there was a time when I didn't read incest! *shakes head fondly* I like stories, period, really good stories, so even if it's a pairing I really don't read or a fandom I've never actually been exposed to, I'll jump to read it if someone I trust says I really should. I'm happy to accept a pretty wide range of characterization, and I'm willing to sacrifice a little writing style and mechanics for the sake of something different and interesting (though with the best stories I don't have to compromise on anything :-p). I'm down with fanon, too—to a point. I draw the line at leatherpants!Draco. One of the reasons A Choriambic Progression was so good (have you read it? I'm assuming you've read it, just because it appears to be HUGE in the fandom, and you seem up on all the Harry/Snape out there *g*) was that it started out with the Snape I immediately recognize from canon—mean, petty, angry, disdainful, hates Harry, etc.—and slowly and believably adds layers to his character, making him human rather than stereotypical, and it does that by drawing on the actual canon we have: the Pensieve scene, his interactions with Dumbledore, his history with Voldemort and the Death Eaters, etc. In short, I'm always on your side if that's where the good stuff is. ;)

I've been trying desperately to churn out a massive paper for a history class (due today), so I've got your story rec open in one of my browser tabs but haven't looked at it. I'll be sure to let you know when I do.

[identity profile] saturn92103.livejournal.com 2004-12-14 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
I've read a ton of Harry/Snape. Oh, how I love them! I actually have a recs page (http://www.a-thousand-words.org/moonshot/hprecs.htm) with links to HP/SS (among other pairings). If you're interested in trying more HP/SS, I recommend "Definition" for a short but powerful piece. Another one of my favorites is "Scratch" by Aucta Sinistra. It's a longer story and very well developed. Links to both are on the recs page. (I can't link them here from work...)

[identity profile] walkingshadow.livejournal.com 2004-12-14 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't say that I'm interested in more Harry/Snape necessarily at the moment (I really read this one on the strength of the rec and in spite of the pairing), but it's always good to know where the good stories in a pairing are, so thanks for the recs. :)

they like the punk and the metal bands

Okay, I might be horribly off base here but, Walk Like An Egyptian - the Bangles

if so, my favourite line, "and the party boys call the Kremlin"

Ah, Cold War era humor. There's nothing better.

GOOD PAPER THOUGHTS!!!

Okay, I might be horribly off base here but, Walk Like An Egyptian - the Bangles

You are dead on! And, heh, Cold War humor indeed. :-D

THANK YOU! I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL IT'S *OVER* >_

why did i just open a tab for a story described as "Harry/Snape. Lupin/Snape. Harry/Lupin/Snape."?

Oooh. Do you still have the link? I want to read it. Lupin/Snape is rapidly becoming my new OTP. I still have a toehold on Sirius/Remus and a fingerhold on Harry/Snape though.

That may not have been the reaction you were looking for. *g*

This story sounds like it would be just perfect for you then. *g* It's here: Bed of Bones (http://etc.slashcity.net/smutmas2004/bedofbones.html), and I haven't read it yet, so I can't vouch for it personally.

That may not have been the reaction you were looking for. *g*

Oh, I know the popularity of Harry/Snape, etc. around these parts. I hope you enjoy it. :)

[identity profile] saturn92103.livejournal.com 2004-12-14 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
The story (Bed of Bones) is great. It's exactly as I like to read Snape and it was so much more than most threesome type fics are. Far more than a standard PWP.

[identity profile] meinnim.livejournal.com 2004-12-14 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Far more than a standard PWP.

Ah, you're so right on this one. It's definitely much more than a tangle of limbs and various other body parts all over the place.

3. robbie williams: millennium

(i think.)

(cannot.stop.laughing. at:

bwaha.)

Robbie Williams is bang-on. *issues gold star*

cannot.stop.laughing.

:-D Now I'm dying to read some beast of a meta-story where EXACTLY THAT happens. Heh.

12. I'm gonna use your tongue as a stamp

Jewel, "Daddy"... or whatever the song's name is. LOL

[identity profile] walkingshadow.livejournal.com 2004-12-14 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Daddy" is just right, good going. :)

[identity profile] picksthemusic.livejournal.com 2004-12-14 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
XD Whee!

oooh! can i play?

[identity profile] malelia-honu.livejournal.com 2004-12-14 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Sparky, is that you?
Finally got a livejournal, but don't worry, there is nothing to see yet. Hopefully my computer will cooperate and I can get some photos up soon! I should be studying for my religion final, but here goes:

5. THE CURE just say yes
10. Primitive Radio Gods ....i think? no idea what song...
11. DuranDuran too much information
15. Modest Mouse... devil's workday? something like that...

also, on a somewhat unrelated, yet post-worthy note, my mom and I were at the urban outfitters in Aventura many months ago and I saw that F.O.I.L. shirt and showed it to her...and she bought it...and wore it to work during homecoming week with a visor that she covered in actual aluminum foil! No wonder her students think shes nuts...thought you might appreciate that....

So do I get a biscuit now, or what?

Re: oooh! can i play?

[identity profile] walkingshadow.livejournal.com 2004-12-14 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww. It was you all the time.

HI!

I've been in a paper-writing nightmare, and I just got your voice mail. Great to have you on lj though. :) Your mom *rocks* and you should tell her I said so.

And you got all the songs, yay! I didn't think anyone would get Primitive Radio Gods at all; does someone else besides me really have their CD?
