orange clouds raining in my head
I blame Jules for bringing the death flu into the house, but nobody made me lounge on her bed while we watched Chasing Amy this past weekend; I've been awaiting the inevitable. The problem with having the flu is I worry that instead of having the flu, what I actually have is any number of horrible diseases with flu-like symptoms. I keep touching my chin to my chest to make sure I haven't contracted meningitis. *paranoid*
I was achy and headachy and a little woozy last night and I made it into bed before *one* but couldn't really fall asleep over one of the roommates having a hysterical conversation with someone over the phone. I should have gone down the hallway and knocked on her door to ask her to keep it to an inside voice, but I was cocooned in my blankets. I don't know how much sleep I got, but I woke up hot and dry in the early hours and tossed and turned for a very long time. I got up to go to the bathroom and drink a glass of water and still couldn't sleep. I heard the ROTC boys go chanting by at 6:30. I must have dropped off again at about 7:30, and I dreamed of a disease that turned you into a schoolmarm, of a disease that turned you into a huge, headless creature, turned white from a nocturnal life, with huge arms and flippers. I dreamed of a disease that made you run so fast you flew; that melted into a dream about escaping from a neighborhood with two other people, running through backyards, jumping over fences, squeezing through sliding-glass doors. The alarm got me up at nine and I stayed in bed for another fifteen minutes. Coughing hurts my chest and my head, and yesterday's ache in my shoulder blades that I thought was from overdoing it at the gym is apparently just part of the flu package.
If I can get out of here in enough time, I'll stop by E.'s office, where I think the god-forsaken thesis will finally die of a failure to thrive, before printing off the ANT reading and getting to class. Between the end of that and the start of AFH this afternoon, I will get someone to sign me into their class, and I don't really care who at this point. I think there's a quiz in African History (Monday's class was cancelled due to illness), but I'm not even going to pretend to study. And when that class is over, I fully intend to come home and crawl into bed. Happy Wednesday!
