ahh, the fannish hivemind. though the community i had in mind would do a couple of things differently: more than one person could write about the same character (would, in fact, be encouraged to do so, that would be the *point*); negative opinions would be welcomed; and it wouldn't be limited to regular characters, because that's FANNISH MARGINALIZATION, or something something.
basically, i want a forum where fans nos. 1, 2, and 3 can say "i love character x because he is [blank] and [blank], as shown by [these times] when he did [this]." and fan nos. 4, 5, and 6 can say "i hate character x because he is [blank] and [blank], he does [this bad thing] and [this stupid thing]." and maybe even fan #7 can say "generally i hate/love character x [because of etc.], but i have to admit that he does [this], which i admire/drives me crazy." and everybody who loves them could see why people hated them, and vice-versa, and anyone who wasn't familiar with/didn't care about the characters could get some insight into them. i think the biggest problems (aside from meta-redundancy, because how many livejournal communities do we need along these lines?) would be 1) getting the people who don't like/are ambivalent to someone to contribute, because essays like these tend to be labors of love (though they could be labors fueled by churning rage), and 2) keeping it civil, keeping it from degenerating into either character-bashing or character-gushing. maybe if people wrote essays JUST FOR ME i wouldn't have this problem.
that said, lt. col. john sheppard is mine for the public adoration! i would have to write in complete sentences and make episode references and EVERYTHING o.O
