having just aged ten years...
I am an idiot. But a lucky bastard of an idiot.
Apparently between updating my site and writing for actual classes last night, I overwrote one of my html files. And then uploaded it today. Fuck. Me. It was, of course, the page with the quotes of all my friends, about 67K and two years worth. Not exactly replaceable. Enter panic. Enter hysteria. Enter tears of frustration and self-loathing. It was a very bad few minutes. Love and thanks to Jules, Jack, and Karen, who offered advice and sympathy.
I'd already loaded the page (which was how I figured out what had gone horribly wrong), but I restarted the computer in OS 9, loaded IE, turned on the "work offline" option, disconnected the ethernet cable just to be safe, and crossed my fingers. When the page loaded magically from the cache, there was jumping up and down, and maybe even some squeals of joy.
Now the emotional let-down. Adrenaline leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, and makes my hands shake. If this was God's way of telling me to back up my files, a simple lightning strike would have worked just as well.
