I used browser bookmarks for a while too (through at least three browser iterations! four if I count AOL (I don't)), but found out the hard way that those were the least stable archival venue for me, and they're all gone. :( You've highlighted one of my problem areas too, namely what to do with fic that you haven't read yet (and therefore don't know if it's worth saving) but want to read in the future.
See, the bookmarking feature at ff.net is just the kind of thing I would never think of, because even though I read fic over there, I'm not part of the community and it's too far out on my periphery. But I imagine you can only use it to keep track of fic that's posted to the site?
I've saved a few of my favorite stories to my computer, but I generally regard that as such a daunting task (I've just past my three thousandth bookmark on delicious) that it's a very small percentage of my favorites.
It's interesting the role entrenchment plays here. For me, saving stories to my computer is the easiest thing to do, because it's what I've done the longest; online bookmarking is much more daunting to me, since I'm starting in the middle and I keep changing my mind about how I want to do things.
